We all had a great time at our Open Mic night, with poems, stories, and songs like the one above.

Monday morning. I need to write, otherwise I’ll have nothing to read at Pub Club on Wednesday evening. I’m hiding away in the front room as the Gas Men have cometh and are dismantling our ancient boiler before installing a bright new shiny implement along with three radiators. They speak a strange language I don’t understand interspersed with hammering, muffled drilling and the ghostly rattling of pipes in the garage.

I did ask if it could be done next April when it was more likely the temperatures would be above freezing but there was general frowning and shaking of heads at such a silly request. If we wanted the discounts it had to be done now, in the depths of winter. I kept silent and have now withdrawn from the excit...

Members enjoyed a brilliant June workshop on "Plotting Short Stories and Novels" led by the excellent Sue Moorcroft.

Sue enlightened us about the importance of "turning points" and not creating a soggy story arc!

Everyone came away determined to bait their hooks effectively, and make sure any skeletons found their way out of the closet at the appropriate time.

New Year Chills..

January got off to a spooky start with several members giving us ghost stories.

Painting Pictures with Words
Our second meeting featured members' descriptive skills.  A variety of scenes were eloquently drawn from painting lakes in Israel, a Viking chieftain, mermaids and fire demons, being imprisoned in your own mind, and walking through memories

One Act Plays
Several members produced engaging one act plays, especially Tony's "Cult of Chopin".
Trevor, Cheryl and Carolyn all contributed great pieces, covering death, painters in the Tate, and also angels in green coats. Ray offered his view of a stage direction with "Enter, pursued by a bear"

Poetry Workshop
We also enjoyed an excellent poetry workshop led by Charlie Jordan

She encouraged us to produce haikus and taakas, then provided examples from other poets eg. Monica Alvin's "I was raised in a glove compartment" to inspire our own creativity.  Charlie also offered to give feedback on any finished poems from members.

A Note for your Diary
